Email :116

Travelling with pets can be one of the most heartwarming experiences, but it also comes with certain responsibilities to ensure the comfort and safety of your furry companions. Qatar Airways (IATA: QR) stands as a leading airline not only for passenger comfort but also for its other well-structured policies. If you are planning to travel with your pet, understanding Qatar Airways’ Pet Policy is essential. The focus of Qatar Airways is on animal welfare. Throughout the flight, Qatar Airways has strict standards.

This Guide provides you with a detailed look into Qatar Airways’ Pet Policy, including carrier guidelines, required documents, costs involved and much more. You can also call the Qatar customer service at  1 (877) 777-2827 if you want any assistance with travelling with pets.

How can Your Pet Travel on Qatar Airways?

There are two ways in which your pet can travel on Qatar Airways: as a Checked Bag and as Cargo.

  1. Travelling as Checked Baggage:
  • Small animals are permitted to travel in the cabin. Qatar Airways permits small dogs, cats, and certain birds here. The carrier must be able to fit beneath the seat.
  • Qatar Airways mandates that pet crates must not exceed a total dimension (L+W+H) of 118 inches (300 cm) when travelling as checked baggage.
  • The travel carrier or crate for your pet should be appropriately sized and have enough openings for ventilation.
  • Openings should have a design that prevents a dog’s paws and nose from poking out, which could cause injury.
  • The crate should also be designed appropriately and sufficiently strong to prevent escape.
  • The travel carrier or kennel must be labelled with your name, phone number, and your pet’s name.

  1. Pet travelling as Cargo:
  • Carriers transport larger or non-domesticated animals, unaccompanied, or those exceeding the maximum dimensions of 300 cm and/or the maximum weight of 75kg as cargo.
  • The container must be large enough to allow the animal to stand up, turn around and lie down in a natural position at all times.
  • All ventilation openings cannot be larger than 25mm x 25mm (or 1 in x 1 in) for dogs. And for cats, it shouldn’t be larger than 19mm x 19mm (or ¾ in x ¾ in).
  • Additionally, the container must be leak-proof, and you must line the floor with absorbent material (e.g., newspapers, shredded paper, etc.) to ensure cleanliness during the journey.

How to Measure your Pet Correctly

A (Length): Measure from the tip of the nose to the base of the tail

B (Height): Measure height from the ground to the elbow

C  (Width): Width across the shoulders or the greatest width

D (Standing Height): height of the dog in standing position from the top of the head or top of the ear, whichever is greater.

Therefore,

  • Length = A + 1/2 B
  • Width = C x 2
  • Height = D+ bedding

Carrying Multiple Pets in One Container

You can carry multiple pets in a single container provided that:

  • Qatar allows up to two adult animals of comparable size in a single container.
  • Should not be heavier than 14 kgs each. Animals exceeding this limit must travel in individual containers.
  • Only suitable animals may be shipped in the same container.
  • If there are three siblings of the same litter and they are not heavier than 14 kgs each. In that case, they may be shipped in the same compartment of the container.
